Mai has a truly unique character in terms of both personality and style. She isn't as "high strung and crazy as the rest of us." she has killer shruiken fighting style and a stellar "New Gothic" fashion sense that this October I most certainly am crazy for. Mai is the daughter of an important politician in the fire nation and went to a very prestigious school where she became Friends with princess Azula and Ty Lee. She also met Azula's older brother, Zuko and developed quite a crush on the young prince and was doubtlessly heart broken when he was banished all though the world would never know it due to indifferent and emotionless exterior. nothing would excite her for a while until her father was appointed Governor of a newly conquered Omashu. One day during an evening stroll she encountered a group of resistance fighters and the rest is Avatar history. Mai is an important character for the character development of Azula and Zuko
Outfit 1:
This outfit's silhouette is similar to Mai's in the show and was perfect for a "new Gothic" cold weather look. Mai prefers not to show too much leg so the long black skirt and slouchy boots fit this aspect of her personality perfectly as well as followed the Gothic look well. The red turtle neck sweater serves as her signature pop of colour (her's is a turtle neck in the show as well). the lacy black blazer breaks the colour block and is similar to Mai's neckline in the show. The black coat's asymmetrical hem is also similar to Mai's and in again very "new Gothic". Finally the necklace and bracelets are very sophisticated and cultured looking (Mai is the daughter of a Governor after all). The sparkly black clutch completes the look.
Outfit 2:
For outfit 2 i did a more casual warmer weather Mai look. I thought that since the dress although perfect in cut and style, was a little bite short and gauzy for Mai. I added the black jeans to make the look more casual and then glamed it back up again with some trendy Goth-chic over the knee boots. the low neckline in countered by a red tank that adds a perfect pop of colour to the look. the bag is a bit more practical than in the last look and the bracelet symbolizes her quiet desire to rebel.
Outfit 3:
for my final formal wear outfit I chose a cute flapper dress with tights to keep it modest. both pieces are black and not only is the neckline perfect but the vintage look makes it feel quite sophisticated. the lacy flats are fancy and comfy. I added the pop of colour in the clutch and the ring, bracelet and earrings complete the vintage look. All in all it is a very chic, "new Gothic" look.
Thanks for stopping by and come back next time for my highly anticipated post on Ty lee.
